Prepare to savour the ART of the motorcycle at MCN London show

Posted on Feb 09, 2016

There’s much excitement here at Principal HQ as we prepare to head down the M6 for the first major bike show of 2016 – MCN’s annual London extravaganza. As well as giving major manufacturers such as Aprilia, BMW, Ducati, Honda, Indian, Kawasaki, KTM, Moto Guzzi, Piaggio, Suzuki, Triumph, Vespa, Victory and Yamaha  the opportunity to showcase their 2016 ranges, the organisers are teasing us with scant details of a new bike launch. All they will say about the machine, which is set to be unveiled on Friday’s opening day, is that it “will be a large capacity machine from one of the world’s leading manufacturers.” Whilst new bikes are always a big draw it’s the diversity of motorcycling fare on offer that’s the show’s real appeal. Naturally we shall be making a typically strong contribution to the line-up, bringing no fewer than five examples of magnificent metal to our stand. Also being teases we’ll not reveal all just now. We will, though, give you advance warning to polish your camera lens and pack tissues in case of excess salivation, as we can confirm that this stunning Aprilia ART CRT will be on show. Art Aprilia OhlinsAprilia CRT James EllisonAprilia ART CRTThis is the beauty ridden by James Ellison on his surprise 2012 return to Moto GP and which you can glimpse in action here taking on an Audi R8 V10 Plus. We think you can guess how that ended. Ellison rode the bike under Paul Bird Motorsport’s CRT colours but, dogged from the outset about his future with the team, the former BSB and European Superstock champ was unable to replicate former glories. He nonetheless clocked up a dozen top ten finishes on the 999cc RSV-4 based bike. Bird released Ellison that season saying simply that he had “underperformed” on the 240bhp, 200mph+, 92ftlbs torque spewing machine, whose spec included with Ohlins inverted telescopics and Brembo carbon disc brakes. On loan from Phil Morris’s motorcycle racing museum – for which you can get a feel here - it’s a classy piece of kit which is sure to get lenses snapping at the Excel. So there you go, just one of many reasons to pay the Principal gang a visit – keep ‘em peeled for another big reveal in the coming days. Oh, and don’t forget every visitor to our stand can also get their grubby and not so grubby mitts on a free Principal 2016 calendar. Within its gorgeous and glossy pages you’ll find machines of magnificence, including the new Triumph Thruxton R, Kawasaki’s Ninja H2, Augusta’s F3 800RC and one of just fifty Suzuki GSXR 750 replicas manufactured as a tribute to Barry Sheene. So please do join us in London – you’ll be in for a capital time!
