Once again Principal Insurance is backing biking, this time by becoming main sponsor of next month’s
Brightona Bike Show.
Now in its 12
th year, the show is the end-of-season finale of Brightona’s annual season of charity events. Organised by volunteers, these support the
Sussex Heart Charity with an astonishing £145,000 already raised to fund vital lifesaving equipment. No wonder then that it’s said to be England’s biggest charity biking event.
But it’s not simply about a good cause. It’s a great show in its own right, attracting hundreds of bikers to Brighton’s Madeira Drive, some there just for the crack, others for the competition, many for both.

The quality of entries is always outstanding, with the Brightona’s ten contest categories offering more variety than the shows that used to grace the end of the resort’s pier.
This year proud owners will do battle to see who reigns supreme with the best Custom, Chopper, Harley, Trike, Streetfighter, Rat, Scooter, Paint Job, or Classic . Then, of course, there’s ultimate accolade - Best In Show.
The competition is naturally taken very, very seriously as Motorbike Show presenter Henry Cole can attest. In
this film he can be seen nervously watching on as he enters his streetfighter into the 2013 contest. As you can see the bar is set high throughout.
Bargain bike deals
The metal is magnificent and a big part of why bikers from across the UK flock to the Sussex coast. But there’s much, much more going on. There’s live music across several stages, the ever-popular Wall of Death, and a whole host of trade stands, including dealers no doubt offering some tasty rump of season bargains.
And whilst Brightona is mainly about bikes, it’s not exclusively so. The line-up includes trucks and cars, notably American metal, which will get our specialist motor insurance team salivating.

On that note, naturally the Principal posse will be in town and not simply because we’ve dug into our pockets to support the show. We attended last year and had the proverbial whale of a time, chatting to bikers and chomping on chips. Oh yes, we do like to be beside the sea.
This year you can expect a bigger presence as we hit town armed with goody bags and our usual charm. If you’re heading down - and we seriously recommend you do - then keep an eye out for us. Not only will the delightful Principal girls be dishing out the freebies, but our staff will be on hand to help you out with any bike or car insurance queries you may have.
What’s more it’s just a fiver in per bike with walk-ins going free, although the organisers do encourage pedestrian guests support the charity through a suggested £5 donation.
- The Brighton Bike Show takes place on Sunday 9th October from 9am – 5pm on the city’s Madeira Drive. If you’d like to take part in the Custom Show you can download an entry form here.
