Welcome to Principal Insurance's first Chief Operating Officer

Posted on Oct 03, 2016

Today we welcome David Hiley to our senior management team as our first Chief Operating Officer. We’ve created this important new role so that we can continue to effectively manage our rapid growth by ensuring we have the right corporate structures and policies in place. David is a highly experienced insurance executive having spent over 35 years in the industry. He has previously headed operations departments at both Avertis Group and Destiny Legal Services and led claims at AXA Direct and M&S Financial Services’ claims departments. He also founded and managed Marks & Spencer Money’s anti-fraud operation, before spending five years with Enterprise as head of claims for Europe. Prior to joining us at our new Manchester headquarters, he spent 18 months as a consultant advising UK and European-based outsourcing providers and insurers. On joining us David said: Principal is a dynamic and exciting broker, led by an impressive management team. There is tremendous potential here for massive, rapid and profitable growth but, of course, in order to maintain necessarily high service standards, there needs to be careful management. “That Principal has appointed a COO at this point, speaks volumes about the group’s commitment to do just that. I’m excited to be charged with filling what promises to be an exciting and rewarding role.” [caption id="attachment_2441" align="aligncenter" width="700"]Principal Insurance, Sale Manchester David joins us at our new Manchester headquarters[/caption] In his new role he will be supported by our operations manager Jackie Bircham and report to our managing director Dave Bowcock and chairman Damian Keeling, with whom he previously worked at Destiny. His appointment comes as we continue to grow rapidly. As we approach the end of our financial year - which is October 31st 2016 - we are expecting to announce further rapid expansion of our business. Last financial year, we grew our gross written premium – the value of policies we broker – to some £5m, an increase of 50 percent. This financial year, we expect that be in excess of £10m. As our relocation to HQ offices three times the size of our old premises suggests, we’re also looking to create new jobs, including around 40 new posts in Manchester. Our specialist motor broking operation in Lancaster and Dublin offices are also earmarked for expansion.
